About Central library
The Central library of SCAD College of Engineering and Technology is located inside the college campus and spreads over 1500 square feet. The Library is spacious and inviting to the college staff & students, providing a pleasant reading atmosphere.
The library is well equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of CD-ROMs, On-line databases, e-journals, e-books, Journals, project reports etc. Huge collections of Books, Journals are available in Engineering, Technology, Science and Humanities. The library has 44646 Volumes of books and subscribes 71 National and International Print Journals and holds membership with NLIST and DELNET.
The library is an automated open access library system, which is kept open 12 hours a day, all year round. Housekeeping operations are automated with Autolib Software. The library staff, supervised by a library committee, aims to provide excellent services to the scientists, researchers, research associates, students and visitors.
Apart from central library, each department has a separate library with good collections of books.
Mission of Central Library
“Selecting, acquiring, organizing, maintaining and making accessible a collection of printed and non-printed, primary and secondary materials that will support the educational, research and public service programmers of both students and the faculty”.
In keeping with the Vision and Mission of the Institute, the SCAD College of Engineering and Technology library and information services play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning activities and provide the main source of information and knowledge for individual research. Library is meant to help scientific works, academic community and faculty to keep abreast with the latest development in their area of activities and to provide information support for research and consultancy. At the same time for the Scientists, Researchers and students, library is a source to get information support for their course curriculum as well as for their self-development.
Collection Development
General Collection: This is the largest collection of books in the library. Books for professional reading, research and supplementary texts are kept in this collection.
Reference Collection: While most books are available for loan books in Reference Section, Thesis & Dissertations, Periodicals and Standards can be consulted within the library. Subject to copyright regulations, reference material can be photocopied. Photocopy Service is available in the academic section.
Textbooks Collection: Textbooks for Engineering, Science &Humanities and Management courses are kept in a separate collection.
Light Reading Collection: While the strength of collection lies in technical subjects, an impressive light reading (leisure, sports, fiction, self-development) collection is also available.
Course Material: Course material in a large number of subjects, prepared by experts under the sponsorships of agencies such as All India Technical Education is very good help for studies.
Journals and Magazines: Journals with profession and research orientation are subscribed by the library. General magazines etc are also subscribed by library. Library also subscribes to several daily newspapers in Tamil and English.

General Rules
- Strict silence should be maintained in the library
- All the students / scholars and outsiders entering the library shall keep their bags and other belongings in the entrance
- Only papers and library books to be returned are allowed inside the library
- Do not leave any valuables at the check point
- Library is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings
- Identity card is compulsory for getting access to the library. This should be presented in the electronic gate register during entry and exit
- Beverages and eatables are not allowed inside the library
- Using Cell phones inside the library is strictly prohibited
- No photographs of the library shall be taken without proper authorization
- Demand and suggestion slips are available at the circulation desk for the users of library
- Library user shall not engage in audible conversation in any part of the library
- Books/other material taken from the stacks should not be re-shelved by the readers. Books should be left on the reading table after use.(Please remember that a document misplaced is a document lost)
- The librarian reserves the right to suspend the membership of any member found misbehaving with the library staff or any other member
Borrowing Rules
- The privilege of borrowing books from the library is restricted to members only
- Identity cards must be produced for borrowing books. These cards are not transferable
- The reader should check the books thoroughly for missing pages, chapters etc., while getting them issued
- No book in damaged condition will be accepted from the users on return. Damaged books will have to be replaced by the borrower
- Loss of Identity card should be reported immediately to the Librarian
- Books issued will not be accepted back on the same day
- Loss of book must be reported immediately. Late fee, if any, will be charged till the loss of book is reported
- Books are re-issued / renewed only if there are no claims
- Readers will be charged with fine for overdue loans @ Re.1/- per book per day; the membership will be cancelled after a period of 5 days of non-return of the books
- Reference books, Theses, CDs and loose issues / bound volumes of periodicals will not be issued
- Every user is requested to check the status of books outstanding against his/her name soon after a transaction in the counter.
- Discrepancy, if any, should be brought to the notice of the person in the counter immediately. Any complaint thereafter is not likely to be entertained
These rules and regulation are subject to revision / updation from time-to-time without assigning any reason.

Membership
- All the students, faculty members and employees of the college are entitled for the membership of the library.
